| I have garlics that are still some weeks away from harvest, even though their stalks are 1-1/2 to 2 inches in diameter. I have noticed earwigs going in an out of the stalks where the leaves join it. Will this cause any problems for my harvest? Or should I just ignore it. If it will cause problems, how should I eliminate the earwigs in the stalks? |
| Earwigs can damage plants if they choose to feed on them, but it's more likely that the earwigs have chosen to hide between the leaves of your garlic plants where it's dark and moist. You can make some traps for the earwigs by pouring a half-inch of vegetable oil into small tuna or catfood cans. Just in case the earwigs are drawn to your garlic because of the odor, you might want to crush a little garlic to put into the oil. The earwigs will be attracted to the oil or oil and garlic mixture, will crawl in and die. Check the traps each morning and fish out the dead earwigs. Enloy your garlic harvest! |
