What can I plant under maple trees? I want something with a flower in the summer time and green in the winter. |
Maple trees are somewhat difficult to plant under because they provide so much competition for any available water, nutrients and sunlight. Possible evergreen groundcovers would include English ivy (Hedera helix) and creeping myrtle (Vinca minor). Of the two, only the vinca blooms. It produces lovely blue flowers in spring. To provide color during the summer, you might consider using one or more containers filled with shade tolerant annuals such as impatiens or coleus. |
