| I was turning over my garden this past weekend when I encountered about 40 grubs throughout the 150 sq ft. The grubs were white with a purplish, black spot on one end and legs grouped on one end. They were curled up, but would begin moving after disturbed. Should I be concerned with their presence in the garden? My plan was to plan my peppers, tomatos, beans, cucumbers, and herbs this upcoming weekend. If I should be concerned, what can I do to rid the garden of these pests? |
| A number of insects spend a portion of their lives as grubs, and in most cases a light infestation is not something to be overly concerned about. (A quick squish with the shovel and they are bird candy!) However, based on your description, it is difficult to give you an exact identification of the grubs you found. You might wish to take a sample to your County Extension (863-0110) for a definite identification and recommended controls, if any. |
