I planted tomato plants too close together - 6 plants about 4 inches apart. They are now close to 5 feet tall, producing blossoms and fruit every day. Should I try to move some of them to space them out? If so, how do I do that without destroying the plant I'm moving?

I would not try to move them now. I would go on harvesting as the heat of summer will soon be shutting down production anyway.

If you want to provide more light for the crowded vines, you could lean every other vine outward from the row a bit to spread them out (the row would then look like a "V" from the end view). This is accomplished by tying them to a trellis support that leans out.
