The Q&A Archives: Artichokes in Arizona

Question: Can artichokes grow in zone 8 in AZ?

Answer: Yes, they grow well here. However, the best time to transplant them is from mid-January to the end of March so they can establish root systems before summer. If you find some artichokes still available at the nursery, you can give them a try, but be sure to apply several inches of mulch to help protect the roots from our summer heat--which seems to have arrived early!
