Vegetables in Shade - Knowledgebase Question

I live in Brooklyn, New York. Which vegetables (by season) would you recommend for the shade?

Unfortunately, vegetables as a rule require full sun -- at least six hours a day which include the noon hour. If you have some sun with your shade you might be able to grow some of the leafy vegetables such as lettuce, spinach, and chard or perhaps peas. These are all cool season crops and can be grown in spring and again in fall. You might expand into herbs a bit and try mint, parsley and chives, too.
