| I understand that the height of a Magnolia stellata is 10 feet with a spread of 20 feet. Can this tree be pruned to keep the spread less without losing the it's overall appeal? |
| Magnolia stellata produces blooms at the ends of branches. If you prune your shrub in late spring, after it has finished blooming, you can reduce the size of the plant, still allowing it all summer to produce new shoots which will flower the following spring. If you prune in the summer or fall months you may inadvertantly prune off the flowering wood, so time your pruning correctly and the shrub can remain small and still provide springtime blooms. |
