The Q&A Archives: Care of Mesclun

Question: How do I take care of mesclun?

Answer: Mesclun is a mix of different salad greens, so you would care for it as you would lettuce. All greens are heavy feeders of nitrogen, so depending on the fertility of your soil, you may want to give it a mid-season side dressing of a balanced fertilizer (10-10-10) or an organic source of nitrogen such as fish emulsion. Water the soil well the day before applying fertilizer and water well after application. Signs of nitrogen deficiency would be poor growth rate or a general yellowing of the leaves. I'll bet you'll be making some tasty salads!
