The strawberry plants seem to have a lot of blossoms on each individual plant. Do I need to remove some of the buds to ensure larger berries? |
Some strawberry cultivars produce larger berries than others, and some are more prolific than others. So, depending upon the kinds of strawberries you're growing, they will be large or small, regardless of how many fruits eacg plant sets. Technically, however, the fewer the fruits, the larger their potential (within reason) because the plant's energy will directed into developing only a few fruit. Why not experiment with a few side-by-side plants? You can remove some of the blossoms from one plant and leave all of the blossoms on an adjacent plant. If removing flowers results in larger berries, make it a ritual in your garden. |
