I recently saw a shrub or flower and would like to find the plant. It had a woody stem, flat, very pink petals, with a yellow ball of petals in the center, It was very beautiful. Hope you can help me.

I'll bet you've seen a Flowering Dogwood. Cornus, or Dogwood can be a large shrub or small tree. There are dozens of of types with several different flowers, but the one you describe sounds like Cornus florida 'Cherokee Chief'.
