The Q&A Archives: Wilting Rhododendron

Question: We planted 3 Rhododendon in spring of 1998 .They receive full sun in the am and shade in the afternoon and evening. All of a sudden , two of them have the leaves wilting. I use miracid and water them. Can you help?

Answer: It sounds as though you have planted your rhododendrons in a suitable location and are caring for them well. Unfortunately, these plants are occasionally subject to a number of different foliar problems including fungus as well as diseases. Based on your description it is impossible to make a diagnosis or suggest a cure. You might wish to take a sample to your County Extension (652-3370) for a definite identification of the problem and suggested remedies. In the meantime, be sure to clean up and remove and destroy any fallen leaves or twigs to try to limit reinfection.
