Answer: You may simply have put them out in the garden too soon. Cucumbers are heat-loving plants. They also take a long time to recover if their roots are disturged during transplanting. They prefer a well-drained soil, so don't water to the point where the soil is saturated. You may be able to encourage growth by covering them with hot caps or fabric row cover, which will capture heat and promote growth.
