I recently found a pink and a white Lady Slipper growing in the wooded area near my home. Is this plant rare, protected, or endangeared? |
Lady Slippers are terrestrial orchids and some types are quite rare. You might wish to contact the New Jersey Native Plant Society, 231 Ryder's Lane, New Brunswick, NJ 08901 for help in identifying your find, or you might find some helpful information about it through Carson Whitlow, a well-known authority on these plants. His site is located at http://www.orchidmall.com/cyp.... Finally, your local County Extension might be able to help you identify the plant you found and advise you on its rarity. Their telephone number is 349-1247. |
