The Q&A Archives: Cedar Mulch for Roses

Question: Thank you very much for your very prompt reply to my question regarding the application of cedar mulch to my cedar hedge. I now would like to know if this kind of mulch is equally suitable for rosebushes.

Answer: One of the best mulches for roses is bark. Whether it is cedar, pine, hemlock, etc., bark mulch allows for air and water penetration, but stops weeds from growing. Roses are moisture sensitive so mulch is especially helpful in retaining soil moisture. Thanks for writing!
