| I have a HUGE old fashion bleeding heart that is starting to die back. It will leave a tremendous hole in my garden that I am anxious to fill. Any suggestions? |
| These plants really do leave a large empty space. If it is in partial shade, you may be able to fill in by planting a large, later blooming plant beside or to the front of it. Some to consider might be Japanese anemone, a taller toadlily (tricyrtis) or perhaps a medium to large hosta. You might even be able to make a trellis and grow a fall-blooming sweet autumn clematis on it (this vine can be cut back very hard early each spring). If it is in a sunny spot, you may be able to fill in with late blooming annuals such as cleome or tithonia or cosmos or even large dahlias. With a little experimentation I'm sure you'll find something you like. |
