The Q&A Archives: Chlorine spill near plants

Question: What effect will diatomaceous earth and some chlorine spillage have on any plants or soil that they come in contact with? Bought a new home with pool and would like to begin planting and landscaping. P.Mance Saratoga, NY

Answer: Chlorine is highly toxic to plants, so if it spilled around some prized plants, I'd flush the area with clean water and hope for the best. Keep a healthy distance between the pool and the new plants.
