| My daughter's Daisy Scout troop has been given the project to plant flowers in front of their school. Unfortunately, the planting date 6/16, is the last day of school. We would like to try to plant something that would be in bloom in September when the students return from summer vacation. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. |
| Some fairly reliable fall bloomers and plants with good fall color would include mums, plumbago, Japanese anemone, asters, dwarf butterfly bush (if you can deadhead it the blooms will last late into the season), ornamental grasses, and gloriosa daisies. Black-eyed Susans and purple cone flowers may rebloom for you in the fall if they are dead headed during the summer and then kept watered. You might also consider some of the heat loving and consequently later blooming annuals such as cosmos and cleome or plants such as cannas and gladiolas as well. Good luck with your project! |
