The Q&A Archives: Overwintering hibiscus in zone 4

Question: I live in Zone 4. I cut my southern belle and disco belle hibiscus last fall and covered them well, will they come up this spring? RoseMary Lunde Elroy, WI

Answer: You are at the northern edge for the hardy hibiscus to over winter. I'd say you have a 50-50 chance they made it depending on the soil conditions and winter snow cover. Well drained soil is best and a consistent snow cover will help protect them.
