Callistemon viminalis, or Weeping Bottle Brush, is a large shrub or small tree with pendulous branches. The major bloom period is May-July, but it produces blooms throughout the year. As a shrub, you can prune in late summer or early fall to least disrupt the blooming cycle. As a tree, thin in spring or summer to prevent tangled, top-heavy growth, and to force new flowering shoots throughout the canopy. If left alone, new leaves tend to grow only at the ends of long, hanging branches.
