| Rooting hormone is generally used to encourage root formation on cuttings. To propagate a tree, cut a branch that's about the diameter of a pencil, that's new but is beginning to develop bark. The branch should be about 8" long. Strip the lower leaves off but leave the top 3-4 leaves on. Dip the cut end in rooting hormone, then place it cut end down in a pot filled with moistened potting soil. Place in a protected area outdoors and water when the soil just begins to dry out on the surface. Depending upon the tree type, it will develop roots within several weeks to several months. |
