Question: While walking the other day I saw a narcissus-like flower. There were about a dozen or more flowers on one stem. Each flower was about one-half inch in diameter and were white with yellow centers. What are they? Karen Costigan N. Myrtle Beach,SC

Answer: They may have been Narcissus jonquilla or something related to that species. These plants bear clusters of narcissus-shaped flowers on tall stems. There are wild (or naturalized) varieties as well as the cultivated garden types.
