| Lythrum, or Loosestrife, grows best in full sun or part afternoon shade and thrives in rich, moist soil. Morden's Pink will tolerate somewhat drier conditions than the other cultivars. Lythrum produces 2'-4' spikes of pink or purple blooms, and airy foliage. Deadhead frequently to prevent self-seeding and encourage abundant flowering. Lythrum has invaded and choked great expanses of wetlands and is banned in many states, so check with your local Cooperative Extension service before planting. ('Morden's Pink' is the least invasive cultivar.) |
