The Q&A Archives: Moon Flowers

Question: Do Moon Flowers grow well in Northwestern Wisconsin? I live here and we do have a very cold winter season, and I'd like to grow this flower if it's possible?

Answer: Calonyction, the Moonflower, would be an annual in your gardening region, but yes, it will grow for you. Start the seeds indoors 8 weeks before planting out, and don't set them in the garden until the temperatures remain above 50F at night. The plants will need a support to climb on, and will grow in full sun to part shade.
