| I have a banana tree that has new trees coming up beside it (pups, I believe is the correct term). I want to divide them and plant them in another location in my yard. How do I go about doing this and is this (June) is the right time? |
| You can divide the pups from the mother plant now if you wish. That will give them some time to establish in their new location before winter arrives. Take a shovel and place it between the mother plant and the pup (place it close to the mother plant). Angle it in at the base slightly toward the mother plant. Then push it all the way into the ground to cut the pup away from the mother plant. Then dig the pup out on the other sides and move it with the soil surrounding it to its new location. Water it in well and it should take off and grow well. After a couple of weeks you can fertilize it lightly to help it along. Stop fertilizing it by about mid-August. |
