I have several bugs in my vegetable garden that look like green ladybugs. What kind of bugs are they and are they beneficial or pests? I can't tell whether or not some of the damage I find on my plants is due to them or not. |
If the insect is yellowish-green with a small black head and 11-12 spots on its back, it's probably a Spotted Cucumber Beetle. The adults chew holes in leaves, flowers and fruits, and can transmit diseases. So, if that's what you're finding in your garden, they are pests. Handpick the beetles and mulch the soil heavily to keep any larvae, which feed on roots, from emerging and feeding on your plants. |
