What would be causing the terminal buds on blue point zinnas to turn black and produce no flower? The lateral buds, so far, have not been affected. |
They may have been attacked by tarnished plant bugs, or are afflicted with blossom blight. Snip off the affected buds, and keep your eyes open for pests. Tarnished plant bugs are almost impossible to control, aside from covering your plants with fabric row cover to create a barrier. If you wish to have the problem officially diagnosed, you can call your county agricultural extension service (ph# 704-697-4891) and find out where to send a specimen. Best of luck! |
