My large oriental radishes always seem to bolt, the first planting only. I know its not a hardiness problem, subsequent plantings produce large crops, once the radish sends up a flower there is seldom good root formation. I've tried new seeds, old seeds, the ones planted in march april and may seem to go! Whats up with that??

Interestingly enough, and unlike red garden radishes, the oriental radishes are known to bolt in early cool spring planting. To get that first early sowing in, try a variety specifically developed for early planting and listed as bolt resistant such as "Spring Song".
