Poplar trees are known for their rapid growth and tough constitutions under adverse conditions. They also have a reputation for extensive root systems which sucker freely. It's a good idea to keep poplar trees away from sidewalks, sewer lines, septic tanks and leach lines, as well as out of lawn and garden areas where roots and suckers can cause problems.
