The Q&A Archives: Bulbs Tolerant of Juglone

Question: I'd very much appreciate if you could send me a list of bulbs, mainly Tulips and Narcissus, that are black walnut toxin tolerant.

Answer: Both tulip and narcissus are tolerant to juglone, the growth inhibiting chemical from walnut trees. Other bulbs considered tolerant are hyacinth and grape-hyacinth. The most sensitive bulbs are autumn crocus and lily. Avoid these and your spring flowering bulb garden should thrive.
