| So far the summer was been wet, windy. Can a hanging basket of annual begonias be beaten up by wind or destroyed by too much moisture? The plants hanging down the sides of the strawberry-jar style basket are down to stems but some are putting out buds (these are not tuberous but the bedding plant commonly sold in late spring). |
| Begonia's are tender plants and can certainly be hurt by cold, wet, windy weather. Even though your plants have taken a beating they should perk right up as soon as the weather warms. Pinch back the bare stems to encourage new growth. In addition to new leaves on the remaining portions of the stems, the roots should produce new stems at the crowns of the plants. Let's hope for warmer weather! |
