How long does a watermelon take to mature once it starts growing?

The answer to your question depends upon the variety, and also on the weather conditions. Most full-sized watermelons take from 74 - 100 days to mature. Some of the smaller, baby type melons can be ready for harvest in about 80 days. You can tell when your watermelon is ripe by watching the little tendril on the stem closest to the fruit. When it turns brown the melon should be ripe.
