The Q&A Archives: Pronunciation of Latin Names

Question: I would like to know how to pronounce the latin names for all flowers-is there a book for this?

Answer: When I was learning the Latin names of plants I was told that if I said the name loudly enough, and with authority, people would believe I was saying it right! This can be the case, depending upon the audience, but if you really want a pocket-sized coach, purchase the book called "Dictionary of Plant Names" by Allen J. Coombes, published by Timber Press, PO Box 1631, Beaverton, OR 97075. ISBN# 0-88192-023-1. It's a very helpful book and you'll refer to it again and again.
