The Q&A Archives: Browning Leaves On Avocado Plant

Question: The leaves on my avocado plant turn brown and fall off--always the bottom leaves. What can I do to offset this?

Answer: It's not unusual for a plant to drop older leaves, and those on the bottom of the plant are the oldest. As long as your plant is putting out new leaves at the top, it's healthy. If it's not growing as vigorously as it should, your plant may be getting too little light or too little water. Try moving it to a brighter location and watering more frequently if it seems to be growing slowly.
