I just planted nine daylilies this spring. They consist of three different blooming periods. One group is in bloom now. The other two types will bloom later. I noticed that the tips of ALL the plants are turning yellow and brown. Is something wrong? |
Based on your description, it sounds like the plants may be suffering some water stress. Although often touted as drought tolerant, daylilies perform best with adequate moisture. New plants will also do better with some extra moisture while they are becoming established. The rule of thumb would be about an inch a week applied as a deep soaking rather than daily light sprinkling. This, combined with a few inches of organic mulch such as shredded bark, should help -- especially during a dry summer. |
