The Q&A Archives: Growing Apricots

Question: How do you grow apricots?

Answer: Apricots are stone fruits and are treated much the same way as peaches. They need a good deep fertile soil and should be located away from frost pockets because the buds are so early that they are often killed off by spring frosts. Depending on the variety you select you may need to plant a pollinator along with it. For optimum fruit production you need to select a variety suited to your local area and follow a localized spray regimen which is dependent on local disease history and spring weather. Your County Extension (391-9840) should be able to suggest varieties and advise you on routine care in your area. Enjoy those apricots!
