The Q&A Archives: Is There Harm in Using Whiskey Barrels as Planters?

Question: Are there plants that should not be grown in whiskey barrels because of the residue in the barrel? Jim Wohlhueter Sumner, WA

Answer: The only plants that might not do well in whiskey barrels are sweet corn and long running vines of watermelon or canteloupe. Other than that, I think any plant would grow well in barrels, including root crops such as potatoes and carrots. Enjoy the harvest.
