Zucchini can be harvested and refrigerated for about a week, but if you're going for a blue ribbon squash, leave it on the vine for the longest possible time and give it plenty of water. Zucchini will continue to grow as long as you provide water and keep the plant healthy.

Squash bugs like all kinds of squash, melons and cukes, just as cucumber beetles like all kinds of squash. You can try trapping the pests by laying boards on the soil at night; the squash bugs will congregate beneath them and you can destroy the pests the next morning. Or, try growing radishes, nasturtiums or marigolds near your squash and cukes plants to repel the pests.
