I have a 10-12' althea (Rose of Sharon) that becomes top-heavy with blooms. Is it okay to prune it? If so, how much and when? |
These shrubs can withstand even heavy pruning if necessary. The best time to do it is in winter while they are dormant. Pruning too late in the growing season (eg spring into summer) will result in a loss of blooming wood because they bloom on the current year's growth. |
