The Q&A Archives: Encouraging Meyer' Lemon Trees to Blossom

Question: I planted a Meyer' lemon tree about two years ago. It produced some blossoms and tiny green fruit. Then everything fell off and nothing since. What should I do? Colleen Mijokovic San Jose, CA

Answer: I'm assuming everything else is fine on your 'Meyer' lemon except the flowers aren't forming. Partly this could be due to over fertilization with nitrogen. If the leaves are large and REALLY dark green, then that may be an indication of too much nitrogen. Also, lemons need full sun, plenty of water and well drained soil. Given you have these conditions, I'd adjust the fertilizing, and perhaps talk with a local nurseryman about the formulation for your lemon.
