The first petunias I planted in my windowboxes did real well and lasted a long time. The last two times I have planted them they die almost immediately. Can you give me any tips?

If you've had success with petunias in the windowbox before, you can rightfully expect them to thrive again. I wonder if the soil needs rejuvinating? Try emptying the windowbox into a wheelbarrow, breaking the soil up, and adding some fresh potting soil or compost. Then refill the windowbox and plant new petunias. Hope this fixes the problem!
