My in-laws live in Bryson City, North Carolina, in the mountains. They have wasps digging holes all in their lawn. Can you tell me how to get rid of these pests?

Ground nesting wasps can be a real pain to deal with! I've had excellent results by waiting until nightfall when all the wasps are at home and placing a glass bowl over the entrance hole. In the morning the wasps will try to leave, only to be stuck. This annoys and confuses them and they eventally kill each other off while running out of food. They aren't smart enough to dig an exit hole and the entire nest will die out eventually. Remove the bowl after a week or 10 days when you no longer see activity.
