The Q&A Archives: Controlling Leaf Curl Fungus

Question: Year after year I keep getting leaf curl on my peach and orange trees. I am using Sevin dust this year and the curly leaf appears to be starting again. What can I use to eradicate the problem? Kip Weinbaum San Diego, CA

Answer: Unfortunately, you will have a difficult time eradicating leaf curl disease. The first step in controlling fungal diseases is to practice good sanitation. Pick up and destroy all fallen fruit, and remove "mummies"--fruit that remains hanging on the branches after harvest. Rake up and destroy leaves. Timing is critical in controlling orchard pests. You might want to contact your local Extension agent about a spray calendar specific to your region; the number is 619/694-2845.
