| Chrysanthemums grow best in full sunshine. There are 160 species of chrysanthemum but the most commonly grown in the garden are C. morifolium. They're perennial plants, easy to grow in rich, well draining soil. Set out young plants in the spring and water deeply once or twice each week. Bloom will begin in late summer and continue until frost. After flowering is finished the stems will die back and the plant will rest before developing new stems. In the spring, as soon as the new sprouts appear, dig the plant and divide it so that each stem has some roots attached. Replant, feed at 3 week intervals and keep well watered. You can expect your chrysanthemums to grow 2'-3' tall. |
