I have very limited garden space. I planted Yukon Gold and Red Bliss potatoes.I planted them in a trench and hilled but because they were spreading out so much I staked them with bamboo garden stakes. They are now about 6 feet tall. I've never heard of anyone staking potatoes. Did I make a mistake?

You must have some extremely fertile soil to have grown potato plants with 6' tall tops! I hope your harvest is equally spectacular! There's nothing wrong with staking the tops of your plants up - it's just not often that we see staked potato plants! Keep doing whatever it is you're doing to make your plants thrive. Staking won't hurt them a bit.

I had the same question! I'm glad there was an answer. I started "making" my own soil when I started container gardening because -yeah- Georgia clay.
