The Q&A Archives: Peas

Question: I have 6 beds that are 4' x 20'. I want to know how many seeds to buy.

Answer: You can sow seed 1" deep and 1" apart in rows 12" apart, or broadcast seeds on raised beds at a rate of one pound per 100 square feet. Each of your beds is 80 square feet, so you can use just slightly less than one pound per bed. At that rate, you can buy 5 pounds for all 6 of your beds. (There are an average of 2000 seeds per pound.)
