My vegetable garden is being devastated by a woodchuck. I have set a Have-a-Heart trap; if I catch it, how far away would I have to relocate the animal to insure that it won't find its way back. This is providing that NY allows relocation.

In my experience several miles distance has been adequate. However you should check with local authorities to make sure it is legal to trap and relocate the animal as well as to verify release location restrictions. You should also be aware that woodchucks are wild and unpredictable animals and can be very aggressive. Their bites are terrible. I would strongly suggest you call in a professional to help you.
