I have a fuchsia tree and am hoping to plant it within my rock garden. Will it survive the winter months of Wisconsin? |
The Fuchsia is native to New Zealand, Mexico, Peru and Tahiti. Even the hardiest of the species are too tender to grow outdoors in your winter climate. You can winter it over in an unheated (but above freezing) garage or basement by removing the leaves when the weather begins to cool in the autumn months, and placing the potted plant indoors. Don't water until spring, when new little leaf buds begin to swell on the stems. Then, when the weather warms, you can take your fuchsia tree outdoors again. |
