The Q&A Archives: Cold Tolerance of Podranea

Question: Please provide as much information that you can regarding the trumpet vine variety of Podranea ricasoliana. I live in Zone 7. Very hot in the summer & can get very cold in winter. How much cold can the plant tolerate? Do you know of a source for this vine?

Answer: Podranea species do tolerate light frost -- they thrive in the subtropical climates in North American, but I don't think they'd do well in Oklahoma. If you have a greenhouse or conservatory to grow them in, they'll do fine. One source is Woodlanders, Inc., 1128 Colleton Avenue, Aiken, SC 29801
Telephone 803-648-7522. Best of luck!
