I have been given a few packets of Cedar Tree Seeds. Problem is there are no planting instructions printed on the package. Can you help me? Thank you. |
Seeds for cedar need pre-soaking and a pre-chill treatment prior to germination. Begin by soaking the seeds for 2-3 hours in warm water. Then mix together in some moistened growing medium, seal in a plastic bag, and refrigerate for about 3 weeks. At the end of this period of time, sow seeds on the surface of moistened seed starting mix in individual pots. Press the seeds in, but don't cover with additional soil. Seeds need light to germinate and are erratic in germination, so don't give up on them! You can expect seedlings to appear in 14-60 days when kept at 60F - 65F degrees. To help retain moisture, you can cover each pot with plastic wrap. Be sure to remove the plastic as soon as the seed sprouts. Good luck with your new cedar trees! |
