The Q&A Archives: Calla Lily Blooms

Question: How long does it take calla lilies to grow and bloom indoors? My daughter graduates this year and their class flower is the calla lily. We want to know if we can grow them and make them bloom for May 26th of this year. David Beyer Coulter, IA

Answer: Established calla lily plants will take months to initiate buds and bloom and they need the right greenhouse conditions to start blooming. Your best bet would be to find a florist or nurseryman that has some ready to bloom or in bloom and hold them in a cool location with part sun. Hopefully they still will be blooming by May 26th for graduation!
